In the United States and elsewhere outside of Israel, the holy days at the beginning and end are 2 days long each. So Passover is 8 days long with 4 days of Hol. Hol Hamoed literally means the mundane or secular part of the festival. Although work prohibitions are not as strict as on Shabbat and Holidays, there are many rules depending on an individual’s level of religious observance. For example, some Jews do not transact any business during hol hamoed. EG520 Engagement CardShopping is only done for items necessary for the holiday.
